How We’re Working Towards Our Goals
Local Organizations Address Housing Shortage Through Collaboration & Innovation
As stated in the York County Housing Needs and Conditions Assessment conducted by the York County Economic Alliance, York County is growing and will require an increase in the supply of housing to match the expected addition of nearly 5,000 additional jobs over the next 10 years. To meet the demand for housing, infill and denser development are needed to meet the level of growth in high-demand areas of York County.
Organizations such as Crispus Attucks York, Affordable Housing Advocates, and York College in collaboration with Four Squares York are working to build affordable housing that is accessible to York County residents. Crispus Attucks York(CA) is the largest real estate holder in York City, and along with providing housing, CA helps to provide workforce training and education services to black adults and youth in York City. York College is in the process of creating an affordable, modular tiny housing demonstration in Summer 2025 with Four Squares York, a local developer with goals of improving socioeconomic outcomes through stable housing. In an effort to increase the supply of housing, some communities across York County have explored creating a housing trust to support the development of multimillion dollar mixed use spaces.
Additional partner organizations such as York Housing Authority, LifePath Christian Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, the Realtors Association of York and Adams County, and others have made efforts to build and meet the demand for housing and to support residents to find and stay in stable and safe homes.
The Stable Housing Collaborative, formed in early 2023 by the Friends & Neighbors of Pennsylvania, Inc., is a partnership between York County organizations and partners who are committed to increasing housing security and stability across the county. The chief aim of this partnership is to support existing programs geared toward the unhoused and improve their effectiveness through collaboration and synergy.
A diverse range of stakeholders are working to foster the construction of new housing, with a focus on mixed-use developments that will create vibrant spaces with housing, commercial space, third-spaces, entertainment venues, and parks and green spaces.
